Flat Stanley's Epic Vacation!

We have just recently come back from an Epic Family Vacation with Flat Stanley!

We took Stanley down through Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, back through Wyoming, South Dakota, Whoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington State and then home!  The trip took us 13 days and we saw and did so much!
Idaho was pretty cool we did lots of driving and spent the night but did not get to do much in Idaho!

We did lots in Colorado Though! Alex's brother and Grandfather got to take a helicopter ride around Boulder to celebrate his Grandfathers birthday!

Cousin Kelly got married and Stanley got to come too!
Stanley had so much fun swimming with Alex at the hotel pools, rode comfortably for hours at a time in the SUV as we made our way to a family wedding in Boulder Colorado!
We were non stop in Boulder, lots of family fun!
The night before the wedding we went bowling with our cousins!
We went Go Karting at Gateway Park in Boulder and they had an arcade we won tickets and got treats too! Then we were off to South Dakota and the home of Wild Bill and Calamity Jane!

Stanley almost lost his head in Deadwood South Dakota!
Thanks to the quick thinking waitress at Ruby's Dinner we were able to save Stanley's head and we were able to fully repair Stanley when we returned home to Vancouver!
Mount Rushmore was amazing!
Stanley got to pose with 4 presidents and Crazy Horse as we made our way on a 8 hour bus ride through Rapid City South Dakota and the surrounding areas.

While we were in the gift shop at Mount Rushmore, Stanley Alex and his brothers got to meet Nick Clifford. Mr. Clifford worked as a driller on Mount Rushmore and he played baseball as well! We got our book autographed and we were even given baseball cards!
After Mount Rushmore we went on a train ride! The train was from 1880 and took one hour to go 10 miles! It was fun but very hot!

Our bus tour continued to Crazy Horse a monument that is not yet competed and may not be completed in my lifetime! It was pretty amazing to see!
In Montana we stopped at the Little Bighorn National Monument.
Last day of the trip and we are on to book number 8!
We had a long and lovey trip with Stanley and we are now resting and gearing up for school. Thank you for joining us on our Epic Vacation with Stanley!

Stanley's Busy Last Week!

Last week Stanley was in for a treat as he came with our family to a "pop up" vintage arcade here in Vancouver. Stanley and the family had a great time playing both Pin ball machines and Vintage Video Games!
The pin ball machines were very cool!
Stanley thought it was also cool that the Arcade had a Bulletin Board!
Stanley loved Ms. Pac-Man!
After Video games we went off to the Comic Book Store, Stanley Spied the pop figure I really would like for Christmas....the Tenth Doctor! Okay enough about me. Stanley and Alex got to pose with the Han in Carbonate Statue and a few others too!
This store had everything Stanley and the boys just loved and a few things I liked too!
Next it was off to the movies and Stanley thought Minions was very funny! Alex and the cousins liked it too!

Thea loved Stanley so much we had to make her her own Stanley to keep!
Stanley and our family may not have much internet access for the next two weeks but when we do we hope to share more of our adventures with all of you!

Wow have we been busy! Already On To Book 7!

Flat Stanley has had some amazing adventures with us over the last few weeks. We have had our cousins (my nieces) here for the last three weeks and we were run off our feet! We had a great time at the Larry Berg Flight Path Park near the Vancouver International Airport!
We watched the planes come in, took turns racing on the flight paths and even had Stanley travel all over the globe!
We enjoyed the Farmers Market and Fisherman's Warf in Steveston BC.
Steveston was hot and sunny when we stopped by and drinks were needed to refresh our adventurers!

Stanley has been almost everywhere we could think of taking him in the last few weeks and Alex has finished book 4,5,6 from the Flat Stanley World Wide Adventure Series!

Having finished book 5 and 6 in school this spring we are Jumping into book 7.

We have more fun plans for Stanley this summer and we look forward to sharing more of our summer adventures with you again soon! As with all our posts we would love to hear from you so please leave us a comment here or email us at karenmowen@gmail.com

A Busy Last Few Days!

Never standing still for long we were off to many local attractions we took Stanley, Alex and the cousins to one of our local Beach Parks, John Lawson Park in West Vancouver.
When we came home for lunch we had a package! I had ordered more of the series from The Book Depository, always free shipping and quite a bit less expensive then Indigo our local book store.
Alex was thrilled, Stanley looked pretty impressed as well! The books worked out to less then $5 each and no shipping!
The next day we were off to Granville Island to show our cousins around and get some of the worlds best doughnuts, Lee's Doughnuts are hand made and amazing, they also have cinnamon buns the size of a child's head. We also saw lots of goslings who are now almost the size of their parents!
Alex woke up with a nasty summer cold and with the swimming we have been doing we had to check that the cough and sore throat with runny nose was not in need of antibiotics. Good news just a summer cold and a few days of laying low and Alex and Stanley can adventure again.
Summer haircut required though Alex was not thrilled with the spikes when the cut was through, he was very happy to have finished book two and move on to book #3!
We hope you will join us for more adventures with Stanley and Alex soon.

Happy Canada Day!

Today Flat Stanley and our family ventured out to our community Canada Day Parade. We brought out cousins from Montreal with us and had a blast, we tucked up under the tree in the shade as it is very very warm in Vancouver right now. You know Stanley had a great time meeting new people and posing for photos. Stanley and our guests were very impressed with the bands, and all the people who turned out for the parade. The 2 hour long event even had Santa Clause and A Zamboni parade on by! We love this Canada Day Tradition and we were very happy to have Stanley join us today! Up for us next in the coming days are more written activities and reading of course! It is a great way to beat the heat!
Thank you for joining us here as we spend time with Flat Stanley!

Stanley Has Been So Busy!

This week Stanley has been a busy little flat guy! He has been to some really fun places and he and Alex as well as their family have enjoyed our daily adventures in not just reading and writing but sharing our stories with everyone we meet.
Stanley got to come to the Vancouver Airport Late (VYR) Sunday night to greet Alex's Cousins from Montreal.
Our Vancouver Airport has some wonderful first nations art (Canada's First People) and Stanley loved posing with and learning about each statue and artist. You can find out more about YVR and the art on display by clicking here.
Canada is a very large country and my sister and I waited for our 4 nieces, 1 nephew and 1 bonus friend to arrive with our sister from Montreal Quebec. The plane landed at just after 1:10 AM, very much past my own bed time! We got home around 2:15 am and we had no power! Our house was very hot and we had 11 people in it! Thankfully when the power started up again just after 3 AM the fans all did their job. Not much sleeping but a memory we will treasure for sure.
Stanley, Alex and all the cousins minus one (Cousin Beth was camping) had a swim day Monday! Good thing that Stanley is laminated!
That evening it was time to head to the Canadian's baseball game at Nat Bailey Stadium. Our baseball team had our wrap up BBQ beside the in field! We got to eat and watch the game. Stanley was hot and tired so we headed home before the 7th inning stretch...
Tuesday we were off and running....to a different country! We went to the USA for Ice cream and Chocolate milk, yes we have these things here but Edaleen Dairy is by far our favorite and worth the 3 hour round trip drive! (okay we ran a few errands and did some other shopping too)
Back home in Canada for lunch and an afternoon Matinee of the Inside Out Movie which we really enjoyed! It was very funny and we learned a lot about  what goes on in our brains with our feelings. It was so much fun to go and it was nice and cool in the theater!
Later on when it was still too hot to even sit still we headed to our local library to get our Weekly Stamp in our Summer Reading club passport! Week one is complete!
That is how we have spent the last few days of summer vacation with Stanley and it is only Tuesday! Tomorrow is Canada day and Alex and Stanley are off to the Canada Day Parade! We look forward to sharing more of our adventures with all of you soon!

Kitchen Science And Book 2 With Flat Stanley!

Yesterday we started our day with a cooking lesson. Chef Alex and Flat Stanley made First Day of Summer Vacation Chocolate Chip Pancakes.
Getting kids involved in cooking at a very early age teaches life skills as well as Kitchen Science, Math and so much more. We don't often have pancakes and we don't normally have chocolate for breakfast but we did yesterday. We even made Stanley his own sized pancakes.
We also started Worldwide adventures book 2 yesterday. I wrapped Flat Stanley in some gauze and inserted him in the book for a bit of fun this morning. Alex loved it.
Check out this book at your local library or you can order one on line from The Book Depository.Com by clicking here.
We look forward to sharing more Flat Stanley ideas and adventures with you soon.
